Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a unique technique that emerged before the advent of Chinese acupuncture, the name of which is deciphered as follows: “shi” – fingers, “atsu” – pressure. The founder of shiatsu was a doctor from Japan Tokujiro Namikoshi, who became interested in techniques that were inherited in martial arts schools. He tried to incorporate these practices into massage – and the results were truly impressive. Already in 1957, Shiatsu therapy was officially recognized by the country’s medical community.

Qi circulation
Shiatsu masters believe that our body is an integral energy system in which everything necessary for regeneration and self-healing is present. However, due to the painful rhythm of modern civilization, due to poor ecology, poor nutrition and stress, the body’s defenses often weaken and the internal energy balance is destabilized. Shiatsu massage not only helps to restore the normal functioning of organ systems, but also normalizes the person’s internal energy.

Our body is shrouded in an energy grid, the intersection of the filaments of which are marked by special points – Tsubo. When you click on them, a characteristic feeling of numbness and warmth appears. Shiatsu masters are inclined to believe that tsubo are a kind of channels through which excess qi energy stored by internal organs is “dumped” into the environment. Very often, due to stress and trauma, these channels are clogged. Shiatsu connoisseurs get rid of congestion and congestion in these channels without any pills and drugs, which allows vital energy to circulate freely throughout the body.

In a healthy body healthy mind
Shiatsu is very different from traditional massage in its European sense. In the case of shiatsu, the body is massaged directly through the cotton cloth. Presses are made mainly with the thumbs, only sometimes a specialist helps himself with a knee or forearm. In shiatsu, pressure on certain points is performed repeatedly until the point has lost its “rigidity” and relaxation and pleasure come in the place of a slight pain.

What can be healed with shiatsu? Yes, anything. Shiatsu techniques successfully help get rid of migraines, relieve lower back pain, cope with stomach pains … Both men and women can deal with Shiatsu today. Men – in order to alleviate the pain caused by sports injuries. Women – to get rid of premenstrual pain, to stabilize the course of pregnancy, and even in order to improve hair growth.

In Japan, becoming a Shiatsu practitioner is not so easy, for this you need to learn at least three years. But the basic techniques of shiatsu can be mastered by anyone. Almost everyone who has ever practiced shiatsu for a long time, note that their immunity has increased, posture has improved, and the headache has ceased to be felt.

The famous thinker Lao Tzu once wrote: “A person, when born, is soft and pliable, and when he dies he is inflexible and hard. All living creatures, trees and grass, when they are born, are pliable and tender, when they die, they become dry and brittle. And therefore, one who is soft and supple, goes the way of life, one who is inflexible and firm, goes the way of death … ” This statement of the famous sage can be applied, including to shiatsu massage. Indeed, only in peace and relaxation lies true harmony.

Watsu.
Healing power of water
The blessed power of water can work miracles: it is not without reason that healers of antiquity prescribed the sick and unfriendly to be in healing springs. What happens if you combine in one technique the virtues of healing massage and life-giving water? Watsu massage is less known today than its predecessor, Shiatsu; however, it holds great prospects for gaining personal harmony.

Like water off a duck’s back
Watsu massage is one of the varieties of the famous Shiatsu massage. Therapist Harold Dall is traditionally considered the creator of the Watsu technique. In 1980, as the director of the Massage Institute in Northern California, he set out to develop special techniques, including those suitable for the rehabilitation of professional athletes and people with physical disabilities.

It is curious that the bizarre word “watsu” itself comes from two words – the English “water” and the Japanese “shiatsu”. Subsequently, the followers of Harold Dall Aryana Brunshviler and Aman Schroter actively engaged in the development of this massage area. Thanks to their efforts, many branches of Watsu massage arose, such as a healing dance, water dance, and the Johar technique.

The result met all expectations: soon the watsu techniques were adopted not only by physicians, but also by yoga studios and fitness centers … Today, many SPA complexes boast original programs, which include, among other things, watsu massage . In other words, Watsu methods continue to evolve and improve today.
